How long will my appointment take?
The time needed for your appointment will depend on your particular circumstances. Expect your initial assessment to take approximately 30-45 minutes, giving your therapist adequate time for evaluation. Return visits are generally 30 minutes in length.
How many appointments do I need?
This depends entirely on your unique condition and how you progress through treatment. At your first appointment, your therapist will perform a detailed assessment and discuss a treatment plan tailored to your needs. While results vary, it's quite common for patients to feel some improvement following their initial visit.
Do I need a doctor's referral?
You don't need a physician's referral to book an appointment for physiotherapy or massage therapy with us. Some insurance plans may require a referral for reimbursement, so we suggest confirming with your provider. Feel free to bring any medical documentation or imaging results, as these can help inform your treatment.
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask for at least 24 hours advance notice if you need to cancel your appointment. Without sufficient notice, a cancellation fee of $35 will be charged.
Do you do direct billing for extended health benefits?
We do offer direct billing services to help simplify your payment process. We bill directly to the majority of major insurance providers, including:

How should I prepare for my first appointment?
  1. Please come in approximately 10 minutes before your scheduled time to complete the necessary intake forms, allowing you to maximize your treatment session
  2. Don't forget to bring:
    • Your BC CareCard number
    • Comfortable clothing suitable for movement
    • ICBC patients – your claim number along with your adjuster's name
    • WSBC patients – your claim number along with your case manager's name
What should I wear?
Come dressed in comfortable clothing that permits freedom of movement. Shorts are best if your treatment involves the lower body, and a tank top or sports bra is recommended for upper body treatments. A private area is available for changing if required.

Jackson graduated from the University of British Columbia, where he earned both his Master’s in Physical Therapy and Bachelor of Science.

Since graduating, he has continued to develop professionally through post-graduate courses and mentorship. Most notably, Jackson has completed an additional 3 years of training at the Canadian College of Osteopathy, where he is working towards his Diploma in Osteopathic Manual Practice. In addition, Jackson is certified to practice medical acupuncture and Gunn IMS.

Prior to Physiolab, Jackson had worked in various private clinics in Vancouver, Burnaby, South Surrey, and Port Moody. Jackson’s treatment approach is patient specific and focused around the patient’s goals. He utilizes manual therapy, dry needling, exercise prescription, and client education to help patients return to sports or daily activities. While Jackson enjoys all aspects of physiotherapy, he has a special interest in treating TMJ dysfunction, headaches, neck pain, back pain, and sports injuries. Jackson also has experience with various sports teams in the community, most recently acting as team physiotherapist to the Thunder Club Volleyball under-18 team.

Outside of work Jackson enjoys an active lifestyle; his main hobbies include volleyball, ice hockey, and weight training. He believes in the importance of exercise and the positive impact it has on one’s physical and mental well-being.

Kenneth Lo

Kenneth is a graduate in Masters of Physical Therapy at University of British Columbia, and previously earned a Bachelor of Science at University of Toronto with honors.

Prior to Physiolab, Ken gained valuable experience working in Port Coquitlam and South Surrey. Kenneth is a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Therapy (FCAMPT) which is an internationally recognized qualification for further manual therapy education. He is also certified to practice dry needling from Chan Gunn Intramsucluar Stimulation (CGIMS), Acupuncture (CAFCI), and has completed several courses in the McKenzie method of mechanical diagnosis for lower back and neck.

Kenneth has a passion for treating a variety of conditions and injuries including sports injuries, motor vehicle injuries, and work related injuries. He believes that many overuse injuries stem from biomechanical faults, and that once the dysfunction is treated through physiotherapy (manual therapy, exercise, IMS), it can relieve symptoms and pain. Also, treating the dysfunction can prevent one from further injuries and lead to a healthier lifestyle.

Kenneth has volunteered in numerous sporting events including the 2012 BC summer games, 2013 BC Special Olympics, 2014 Burnaby Tennis Open, and also for the Earl Marriott School football.

Outside the clinic, Kenneth is usually at the gym weightlifting, playing soccer, tennis, or golf. He is playing in a few basketball leagues and the summer softball league. Depending on the season, Kenneth likes to be outdoors hiking, camping, or snowboarding in the mountains of beautiful BC!

Katie joined the PhysioLab team from the Fortius Sports Medicine Clinic, where she gained experience working with individuals from the weekend warrior, to high performance athletes.

Enjoying an active lifestyle herself, knowledge of various activity demands and movement patterns allows Katie to help clients return to participation in their activities. Her treatment approach involves a blend of manual therapy, individualized exercise prescription, and dry needling. Katie enjoys working with individuals of all activity levels and values developing a client-therapist partnership in order to achieve her client’s treatment goals. Her treatment approach focuses not only on alleviating pain, but correcting muscle imbalance and joint dysfunction in order to prevent future injury.

Mecca Clipsham

Mecca is a registered physiotherapist who graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Master of Physical Therapy and a Bachelor of Science.

She has also completed her Level One Orthopedic Manual Therapy certification and her Pelvic Floor levels 1-3 through Pelvic Health Solutions.

Mecca takes an individualized, client-centred approach to each treatment session and works with clients to set meaningful goals. She believes in helping clients to understand their bodies while empowering them to become active participants in their treatment in order to achieve their goals and reach their potential. Mecca enjoys working with people of all ages and abilities, and has experience working with people with various orthopedic injuries, complex medical conditions, chronic diseases, and post surgically. Jacky Shen

Jacky is a Registered Physiotherapist at Physiolab – Olympic Village.

Born and raised in BC, he obtained his Bachelor of Kinesiology degree at the University of British Columbia. During his studies, Jacky served as one of the head coaches of the UBC Weightlifting & Powerlifting club – providing training and education to students looking to engage in recreational fitness and improve their physical activity levels. After gaining valuable experience working as a Kinesiologist, he decided to move across the pond to complete his Master of Science in Physiotherapy from Glasgow Caledonian University in Scotland, graduating with distinction. Additionally, Jacky is able to provide physiotherapy services in both English and Cantonese.

Jacky employs a holistic style of treatment, combining manual techniques, movement re-education and individualized exercise prescription to reduce pain and correct dysfunction. He is certified in Soft Tissue Release (STR) and is pursuing additional education in orthopedic manual therapy and manipulative physiotherapy.

Outside the clinic, you can find Jacky exploring the outdoors, traveling to new destinations and staying active in the gym. He is also an avid football and hockey fan, cheering for the New York Jets and local Vancouver Canucks.

Ernest completed his Master of Physical Therapy and Bachelor of Kinesiology at the University of British Columbia.

He has also completed his Orthopaedic Division Level 1 Certification from the Canadian Physiotherapy Association, and has a passion to continue developing his knowledge and skillset.

Ernest is a strong believer in using an evidence-based, client-specific approach in his practice. He uses a combination of manual therapy, client education, and exercise therapy in order to help clients get back to their daily activities. Ernest has experience working with a variety of clients, notably those with neck pain, rotator cuff pathology, and back pain; he has also worked with many clients during their rehabilitation after surgery.

A session with Ernest will include a comprehensive interview and physical assessment. Ernest will work together with you to determine meaningful goals, and formulate an appropriate treatment plan to help you achieve them. Ernest believes that every person has a great capacity, and hopes to help each of his clients achieve their maximum potential.

Outside of the clinic, Ernest enjoys leading an active lifestyle, participating in a variety of sports such as volleyball, ultimate frisbee, snowboarding, and weightlifting. Courtney Chan

Courtney is a physiotherapist with a Master’s degree from the University of Sydney and a Bachelor’s from the University of British Columbia.

A Vancouver native, Courtney started her journey in rehabilitation as a kinesiologist, guiding her clients to move better. She has practiced in both acute medical and private outpatient settings, treating a variety of conditions including musculoskeletal injuries, post-stroke, traumatic brain injuries, and post-surgical care.

Courtney uses a unique combination of clinical Pilates and manual therapy to treat a range of conditions. She is also a graduate of the ConnectTherapy™ 3-Part Series and Thoracic Ring Approach™, and incorporates this process to look at each person as a whole to assess for the root cause of the problem. Courtney believes in a biopsychosocial model, which means empowering her clients to understand all the factors that can impact their road to recovery.

In her free time, you’ll usually find Courtney outdoors in the sun, whether it’s hiking or walking the seawall. When it’s cold out, she loves to try new dance classes and volunteer as an adaptive ski instructor.

Alexia Lee

Alexia completed her Master of Physical Therapy at the University of British Columbia, where she also earned a Bachelor of Kinesiology.

She holds Level 1 certification in the Advanced Integrated Musculoskeletal Program and is certified in treating running injuries through The Running Clinic. Alexia is currently completing her Clinical Pilates certification with Calibrate.

Her journey to become a physiotherapist was inspired by her passion for health sciences and how the body moves. As someone who grew up actively involved in sports such as dragon boating, cheerleading, gymnastics, track and field, and ultimate frisbee, Alexia developed a deep appreciation for movement and its impact on overall well-being. During her undergraduate studies, she was drawn to the breadth of a physiotherapist’s role, from empowering individuals to regain function and mobility in daily life to helping athletes return to sport. Alexia values working collaboratively with her clients to create treatment plans that combine education, manual therapy and exercise.

Born and raised in Vancouver, Asahi completed her Master of Physical Therapy and Bachelor of Kinesiology at the University of British Columbia.

Asahi currently holds her Advanced Integrated Musculoskeletal (AIM) Level 1 Diploma from the CPA Orthopaedic Division and has worked with upcoming physiotherapists by mentoring them on taking the provincial exam.

He has competed at a high level in all these sports as well as competing at the CrossFit Games in 2014 and CrossFit regionals from 2013-2018.

During that time, he worked with a wide range of clientele ranging from elite national level athletes of multiple sports, to weight loss, to those with the goal of aspiring to get fit. He takes the same inclusive approach to working as a Massage Therapist and enjoys treating patients from all walks of life. Whether that be trying to recover from injuries sustained in a Motor Vehicle accident, Tight Shoulders from working at a desk or Chronic Knee pain in a competitive athlete.

Kurt’s goal is to share his passion for wellness with his patients by not only treating, but by educating them on how their body works, how it should move, how to prevent further injuries and ultimately, how to improve performance.

When Kurt is not at the clinic, you can find him training at the local CrossFit gym, playing football or snowboarding one of the local mountains.

Leena uses a collaborative, patient centered approach to help improve health and well-being through movement.

Leena is passionate about working with individuals to create exercise-focused programs that can help them recover from injury, better their movements, and foster long-term resiliency. She believes education and empathy are integral to empowering clients to feel more confident in their bodies and help them achieve their goals.

Leena received her Bachelor of Kinesiology from the University of British Columbia. During her time at UBC, she gained experience in injury prevention and rehabilitation as an Athletic Trainer with UBC Athletics, where she won five national titles with the Women’s Volleyball, Field Hockey, and Golf varsity teams. Leena continues her education as a third-year student working towards her Diploma of Osteopathy Manual Practice at the Canadian School of Osteopathy.

In her free time, she enjoys playing volleyball and ultimate frisbee, trying new recipes, and deep diving into niche topics.

Jenessa is a registered Kinesiologist and practicing member with the British Columbia Association of Kinesiologists (BCAK). She completed her Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology at Simon Fraser University, with a concentration in Active Health and Rehabilitation.

Outside the clinic, Jenessa enjoys playing competitive volleyball, teaching and performing music, and can often be found hiking/camping and enjoying the outdoors.
